Lesson 1.4 - Daily Operations¶
Daily operations are not just “watching the screen.” A Dealer needs a repeatable shift rhythm: receive the handover, check the trading environment, identify current priorities, monitor live signals, preserve evidence and transfer every material open item to the next shift.
Shift Scenario¶
At 08:55, the previous shift leaves three open points:
- Quote Source B briefly disconnected overnight.
- A VIP client reported XAUUSD execution delay.
- US CPI will be released later in the day.
The first task for the incoming Junior Dealer is not to focus on XAUUSD price direction. It is to confirm whether the overall trading environment is healthy and turn the three open points into clear monitoring priorities.
Daily Workflow¶
Shift-Start Checklist¶
| Check Item | Evidence to Review |
|---|---|
| Platform | MT4 / MT5, Manager, access and trading status |
| Server | Current health indicators and active alerts available to the Dealer |
| Bridge | Connection, queue, routing, matching, reject and timeout status |
| Quote Source | Primary and secondary session status, contribution, latency and quote quality |
| Quotes | Update frequency, spread, freshness and Client Terminal chart behaviour |
| Exposure | Net exposure, gross exposure, concentration and overnight positions |
| Calendar | High-impact news, holidays, rollover, contract changes and maintenance |
Live Monitoring Rhythm¶
A consistent shift rhythm includes:
- Reviewing platform, quotes, Bridge, quote sources and Exposure at defined intervals.
- Increasing monitoring around market open and close, major news, rollover and low-liquidity periods.
- Verifying an abnormal signal before assigning a cause or deciding whether escalation is needed.
- Recording all material open items in the handover.
Exercise¶
You receive the 08:55 handover described above. Write your action plan for the first 15 minutes.
Recommended sequence:
- Read the previous handover and identify open Incidents.
- Verify the current platform, quote, Bridge and quote-source status.
- Review current XAUUSD spread, execution timing and quote-source response.
- Check Exposure, account concentration and the upcoming event window.
- Set monitoring priorities and determine whether escalation is required.
Practical Training¶
Scenario¶
At shift start, Quote Source B remains under review, CPI is scheduled for the same day and XAUUSD client concentration is elevated.
What to Check¶
Previous handover, quote-source session status and contribution, Bridge queue, Client Terminal charts, Exposure, client concentration, event time, open Incidents and assigned owners.
Common Mistake¶
Completing a superficial checklist without turning the open information into priorities for the current shift.
Correct Handling¶
Record Quote Source B, CPI and XAUUSD Exposure as the three initial monitoring priorities. Confirm the current status of each item, identify the assigned owner for any open action and set the next review time.
Summary¶
Daily operational quality comes from rhythm and discipline. A reliable Dealer checks the right areas at the right time, converts open information into priorities, records material changes and keeps the next shift informed.
Completion Criteria¶
- Can explain the key risk or operational objective of this lesson
- Can identify the required systems, data, or evidence to review
