Lesson 1.3 - Core Responsibilities

The core responsibility of the Dealing Room is to continuously observe whether the trading environment is operating normally and, when an exception appears, to verify facts, preserve evidence, escalate clearly and maintain an effective handover.

Core Monitoring Areas

Area Dealer Should Watch
Platform MT4 / MT5 access, server status, session status and order processing
Quotes Bid / Ask, spread, update frequency, freshness and chart behaviour
Execution Delay, reject, timeout, slippage and partial fill / partial execution
Bridge Connection, queue, routing, matching and abnormal logs
Quote Source Session status, quote quality, contribution, latency and execution condition
Exposure Net and gross exposure, concentration, direction and material movement
Incident Detection time, scope, evidence, escalation and closure status
Handover Open items, assigned owner, evidence location, next action and next update time

Junior Dealer Boundary

A Junior Dealer may monitor, verify available information, preserve evidence, record confirmed facts, escalate exceptions and complete handover. A Junior Dealer must not independently change production settings, client conditions, permissions, risk parameters or system configuration. Controlled system actions may only be performed by personnel explicitly authorised for the specific action.

Standard Actions

  1. Observe the signal.
  2. Verify with at least one reliable source.
  3. Save evidence.
  4. Record time, symbol, account scope and impact.
  5. Notify the Shift Leader or assigned owner when required.
  6. Leave a clear handover if the item remains open.

Practical Training

Scenario

During the shift, a client complaint, quote-source latency and an Exposure alert appear at the same time.

Confirmed Facts

  • Separate what has been directly observed from what still requires review.
  • Do not treat the three signals as one confirmed incident until the evidence supports that connection.

Evidence to Review

  • Client complaint time, affected order or account scope and stated symptom.
  • Quote-source session status, latency, timestamps and comparison with other quote sources.
  • Bridge queue, routing or matching status and relevant order records.
  • Exposure direction, concentration, affected products and change over time.
  • Client Terminal charts and any related platform or market-event context.

Dealer Actions

  • Separate confirmed facts from observations that still require review.
  • Preserve screenshots, logs, order identifiers and timestamps.
  • Record the current scope and whether the signals appear related.
  • Escalate material exceptions with a structured update.
  • Continue monitoring and prepare a clear handover if the review remains open.

Escalation Items

  • Material client or order impact.
  • Persistent quote-source degradation or abnormal Bridge behaviour.
  • Rapidly changing or concentrated Exposure.
  • Evidence that the signals may form part of the same wider incident.

Actions Limited to Authorised Personnel

Changes to production settings, client conditions, risk controls or other controlled system actions may only be performed by personnel explicitly authorised for the specific action. The Dealer may verify, record, preserve evidence, escalate, monitor and complete handover.

Summary

The Dealing Room does not create value by guessing direction or assigning causes too early. It creates value by detecting issues, proving facts clearly, respecting authority boundaries and keeping operational risk visible across shifts.

Completion Criteria

  • Can explain the key risk or operational objective of this lesson
  • Can identify the required systems, data, or evidence to review
  • Can describe the correct escalation or handling process
  • Can apply the lesson correctly in a supervised scenario
